Alibaba has entered into direct competition with OpenAI by launching a new artificial intelligence model named QwQ-32B-Preview. This model is designed with a strong emphasis on logical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities, similar to OpenAI’s o1 model.
Features of QwQ-32B-Preview
According to Alibaba’s AI team, known as Qwen, the QwQ-32B-Preview model includes 32.5 billion parameters and can process texts up to 32,000 words long.

Parameters are variables or components used in AI models to influence their performance. Increasing the number of parameters allows a model to handle more complex datasets, enhancing its learning capabilities and performance.
Performance Highlights
Alibaba reported that the model has excelled in mathematical tests, such as AIME and MATH, and in certain logic tests, it matches or even surpasses OpenAI’s o1-preview model. This underscores the growing competition between the two tech giants in the AI space.
One standout feature of QwQ-32B-Preview is its self-verification system, which is similar to OpenAI’s approach. The model generates responses and then reviews them before presenting the final output. While this process increases response time, it significantly enhances accuracy compared to traditional AI models.

The Qwen team described the model with a philosophical tone, stating:

Availability
Alibaba has made QwQ-32B-Preview available for commercial use under the Apache 2.0 license. However, not all components of the model have been released, making it impossible to fully replicate the model at this time.
